Claerchens Ballhaus milonga moved up a floor away from the Claerchens Ballhaus main business to the beautiful Spiegelsaal (engl. mirror hall) where baroque and Berlin vintage charme meet surrounded by 4m high mirrors. Berlin-Mitte
Hosted by: Andreas Rocholt & Mona-Isabelle
    Show: Susanne & Rafael
Live: Quarteto Rotterdam & Anna Franken
    Entrance fee: free!

Classical Music meets Tango Argentino: „Idas y Vueltas“, a project by Anna Franken, combines the old with the new world, Europe with Argentina, German with Argentinian music. Berliners are used to Pendelverkehr*: Suddenly the metro line is interrupted and you have to change trains. Tourists often get lost the first time they face “Pendelverkehr”. Likewise in our lives we often find ourselves between two directions, two horizons. The artists of this CTF milonga will jointly create their stories of being “in-between”. DJ: Peggy Schorn

This event is part of the Contemporary Tango Festival taking place at the Berlin main train station building. Entrance is free and you are welcome to dance or just watch. We recommend renting one of the station lockers for your valuables and bags as the festival space is accessible for all interested persons.

*Pendelverkehr occurs when tube or rail tracks are maintained and only one train can pass the maintained segment at a time shuttling back and forth between stations. Passengers usually have to change trains at the station at the maintenance site although they stay on the same line. Also intervals between trains are longer as at any given time as there can only be one train using the rails.

The Tradition is Transgressive milonga neo nuevo CTF

    Berlin-Mitte
Hosted by: Andreas Rocholt & Mona-Isabelle
Show: Tangoforge Crew feat. SaxMan Michael Rühl
    Live: Carlos Libedinsky (band.)
    Entrance fee: free!

Join DJ and SaxMan Michael Rühl and TangoForge in a night which remembers and realizes Argentine Tango as a transgressive cultural action. As was common in African diasporic practices, tango was carefully fused with surrounding cultures and yet retained an insurgent character which has animated generations of musicians and dancers to break both social codes – and tango’s own. In Argentina, the diaspora did not survive to nurse its child. In the United States, a different history allowed the slaves’ songs to nurture blues, jazz, and hiphop. Jazz and tango meet periodically as two great arts, great-grandchildren who have all but forgotten the daring which nevertheless still speaks directly to our spirits. With their joint performance Vio & Michael would like to draw attention to the constitutive relations between the circle of community and the divine spark of improvisation.

DJ Michael Rühl  also provides music for dancing throughout the night and will focus mainly on tangos from past 1960 on LPs or Vinyl for the occasion

The real tradition: 6 hours 100% live music milonga trad CTF

    Berlin-Mitte
Hosted by: Andreas Rocholt & Mona-Isabelle
Live: Quinteto Ángel feat. Sergio Gobi
    Entrance fee: free!

During the “Golden Era of Tango” (1940s) dancing tango was intricately entangled with playing tango music: Without CDs, computers, and modern sound systems, there was only one opportunity to dance tango: when a tango orchestra played live music at a milonga. Dancers had to adapt to the style of the orchestra of the night and musicians picked up on the atmosphere and mood of the dancers they played for.

After the overwhelming success of this event in 2016, CTF are glad to offer you this one-off chance to experience what dancing tango during the Golden Era felt like once more. One of the world’s best tango orchestras, Quinteto Ángel, plays traditional tango music live for you to dance to for six hours!

Pippo @Old Red Lion Inn milonga trad

    Berlin-Neukölln
    Hosted by: Fil
    Entrance fee: 7

The Berlin district of Rixdorf has evolved from an old Bohemian village founded in 1360 by templar knights. At the end of the 19th century it was a huge city with 250000 inhabitants – and notorious for its ‘frivolous close dancing’ at numerous amusement etablissements and inns. The infamous Rixdorf Schieber (engl. “slow dance”) caused the German Kaiser to prohibit all slow dancing and to rename Rixdorf to Berlin-Neukölln in 1912 to erase its bad reputation. 2015 saw the ‘frivolous close dancing” return to Neukölln at Pippo’s milonga albeit in a more decent fashion. It takes place at the beautiful Old Red Lion Inn the owner renamed to its literal German translation “Alter Roter Löwe Rein”.
